The University Library Board

 

The University Library Board shall promulgate policies regarding the acquisition and services programs of the University Library. It consists of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs as Chairman, nine (9) members to be appointed by the Chancellor from the different colleges/divisions of the University, and a Student Representative whose term expires upon the election of the new Chairman of the Student Council.  The University Librarian shall serve as member-secretary (The University Library Organic Act, 1991).

THE UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

The UPV University Library is composed of six (6) College/Unit libraries located in different campuses.  Each of these libraries supports the different academic programs and research of the respective college or unit where they are attached to.

 

 

TECHNICAL SERVICES

The Technical Services Section takes charge of the following library operations:

  • Acquisition
    This section is responsible for acquiring library materials requested by the faculty members of the University for their academic and research needs. The selection of library materials is done in accordance with the collection development policy of the library.
     
  • Cataloging
    This section takes charge of the cataloguing and classification of all the library materials, both print and non-print; the preparation of the item before its circulation or shelving; and the creation and maintenance of record for each library item so that it can be easily accessed or found.
     
  • Indexing
    This section is responsible for providing clients with bibliographic sources or indexes that they can consult while they are doing their academic or research work.  Articles from different journals, periodicals or magazines are indexed to facilitate access and use.
     
  • Inventory
    This section conducts and maintains an accurate inventory of all items associated with the Library.  Inventory is a process by which items and information in the holdings record are verified and compared with the physical material found in the library’s collection.

 

 

ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

The Administrative Services Section provides administrative support to the functional sections of the library. It plans, directs, and coordinates the administrative services of the library.  It takes charge of the needs of the library personnel. It maintains the records of the library files, budget proposals, allocations and expenditures.  It also handles the mail distribution, custodial operations and other support services of the library.

  • Records Maintenance And Management Section
    This section ensures the adequate documentation and proper preservation of records providing evidence of the organization, functions, policies, decisions, procedures, and essential transactions for current and future use.

 

 

IT (INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY) SUPPORT SERVICES

The IT Support Services Section performs preventive maintenance of electronic equipment used in library operations.  It also assists in the selection and acquisition of IT equipment/supplies.

  • Computer Operation And Management Section
    The Computer Operation and Management Section upgrades and maintains the online databases of the library, as well as monitors its computers and their peripherals continuously on a regular basis to ensure that its information systems and networks infrastructures are secure and operating effectively and efficiently.

 

 

COLLEGE/UNIT LIBRARIES

 

There are two (2) two-unit libraries located in Miagao campus. They are the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS)/School of Technology (SoTech) Library and the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Library.

 

  • COLLEGE OF FISHERIES AND OCEAN SCIENCES (CFOS) / SCHOOL OF TECHNOLOGY (SOTECH) LIBRARY

    The CFOS Library occupies two rooms of the Library-Museum Building for its collection and readers. It houses not only the collection of the College of Fisheries but also that of the School of Technology (SoTech). It also operates the Brackishwater Aquaculture Center Library in Leganes.

    The different institutes of the College of Fisheries, namely, the Institute of Aquaculture (IA), Institute of Marine Fisheries and Oceanography (IMFO), Institute of Fish Processing Technology (IFPT), and the Institute of Fisheries Policy and Development Studies (IFPDS) maintain their own “mini-library” with the help of the CFOS Librarian.

  • COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES (CAS) LIBRARY

    The CAS Library is also situated in the Library-Museum Building.  It consists of the following sections: Circulation, Reserve, Filipiniana, and Reference/Serial Sections.

 

 

There are three (3) unit libraries located in the Iloilo City campus. They are the College of Management (CM) Library, the High School Library, and the Graduate Library. Unlike in Miagao campus where the libraries are confined in one Library-Museum building, the libraries in the Iloilo City campus are scattered and situated in different buildings. The University Archives can also be found in the said campus.

 

  • COLLEGE OF MANAGEMENT (CM) LIBRARY

    The College of Management Library consists of the Reserve, Circulation, Reference and Filipiniana Sections which are situated in two different locations in Iloilo City Campus.  The Reserve/Reference Section is located at the Humanities Building, while the Circulation/Filipiniana Section is located at the second floor of the Graduate and Continuing Education Building (GCEB). Both sections occupy only one room of the said buildings.
     

  • GRADUATE LIBRARY

    The Graduate Library, located at the ground floor of the Graduate and Continuing Education Building (GCEB), caters mainly to the information and research needs of the graduate and post-graduate students of the University. It is divided into Reserve, Circulation and Serials Sections.
     

    HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY

    The UP High School Library is located at the 2nd floor of the High School Building.  It serves the library needs of both Junior and Senior High School students as well as the faculty members.
     

  • UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES

    The University Archives is located in the Humanities Building.  It serves as a depository of archival and official records of the University of the Philippines Visayas.
